What you would do:

The Day Treatment Teacher provides teaching instruction for K-12 students with serious emotional and behavioral problems in learning. 


  • Plans, prepares, and presents appropriate curriculum lessons and other instructional materials to meet the individual educational needs of each child and enrich the therapeutic milieu

  • Effectively applies the appropriate model of care in all interactions with clients

  • Participates in education planning by partnering with Intake, coordinating with the LEA, and obtaining information from IEP meetings as necessary

  • Follows the daily routines, schedules, and treatment patterns indicated for each client according to the clinical model of care and individualized treatment recommendations

  • Completes or arranges needed educational assessments and testing

  • Assists with transition processes for students who are returning to the public school setting

  • Completes all relative paperwork including progress notes, assessments, person-centered plan reviews, discharge aftercare plans and transfer plans within the assigned timeframes

  • Participates in child and family team meetings as needed

  • Monitors and provides feedback to appropriate staff (therapist, supervisor, psychiatrist,) concerning client symptoms, new behaviors, medication side effects, and other pertinent issues

  • Communicates progress, incidents and restraint and seclusions, as well as any other individual issues involved in each case to all internal/external parties

  • Ensures safe and confidential environment for clients of program both proactively and by responding to situations that arise

  • Maintains the milieu environment in a neat and orderly manner conductive to treatment and in compliance with safety, health, and infection control policies as evidenced by EOC inspections

  • Uses less restrictive interventions to minimize restraint /seclusion as appropriate

  • Completes all required training and refresher courses and maintains required certification as evidenced by training logs

  • Provides assistance to Program Manager as needed

Bachelor's Degree in Education Required. Focus in Early Childhood education or Special Education preferred.


Must be licensed teacher for NC schools or must complete licensure within 1 year of hire. At least two years of experience working directly with the children's mental health population preferred. 

Must have ability to conduct, interpret, and translate educational assessments. Qualified Mental Health Professional credentialing is preferred.
