What you would do:

Alexander Youth Network is seeking part-time candidate to act as Mental Health Technicians in our ASAP program in Greensboro, NC.

Alexander Youth Network manages a residential substance abuse program for adolescents and teens in Greensboro, North Carolina. This group home setting provides care for 8 males through our ASAP program and 2 females through Foster Services. While in the program, teens participate in a series of individual, group, and family counseling sessions to identify triggers and underlying draws to substance use.

At Alexander, we adhere to The Seven Challenges Model to help adolescents and teens to evaluate their life goals, personal challenges, and empower them to make the appropriate lifestyle changes. While in the residential program individuals work through challenges with family and natural support systems to identify strategies for long term success.

Must be able to attend two-week paid orientation. Pay rate is $14/hour.


  • The MHT will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
  • Receives instruction for daily activities from the program director and/or lead MHT.  
  • Gives instructions to children regarding desirable health and personal habits who are in recovery from a substance abuse problem
  • Interacts with clients in a therapeutic manner
  • Establishes structure in the program that enables the client to learn responsibilities
  • Maintains a safe environment including fire prevention, fire drills and evacuation plans
  • Plans events for clients, including informal play time, special events and group activities
  • Restrains aggressive clients using approved techniques and procedures
  • Provides transportation for clients to events, including but not limited to school and medical appointments
  • Counsels or provides similar diagnostic or therapeutic services to clients with substance abuse problems and co-occurring mental health disorders

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent with some college.
  • Minimum of six months related experience and/or specialized training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to write routine reports and correspondence in a legible manner.
  • The ability to use basic math skills including multiplication, division, understanding units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Must apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Respects the cultural diversity of children in care, and strives to create a positive relationship.
