Advanced Nurse Practice Certification with two years or more years of clinical practice experience in pediatrics, family practice or mental health.

SUMMARY

Provides assessment, medication management, and medical services for clients and staff within scope of an NP

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Provides medication management for clients under the supervision of the Medical Director, supervising physician or supervising back up physician, includes initial and follow up appointments. 
  • Observes client, records significant conditions and reactions , orders and monitors results of medical testing and relays information regarding patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, labs, medical tests and significant incidents
  • Explains procedures and treatments to clients to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension through awareness of comfort and safety needs of client
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the client, as prescribed by centers policy and Joint Commission standards,  including patient and family instruction Documents per AYN required standards, including CABHA and JC, i.e. VS, Ht/Wt/BMI  and AIMS
  • Maximizes billing for services provided through efficiency and productivity
  • Arranges and maintains schedule to best meet the needs of the agency and its clients 
  • Is available for medication management, based on demand at  Alexander locations at least one time per month
  • Maintains open lines of communication with practice sites, Medical Director, Executive Directors/Managers and the COO
  • Covers on call duties for restrictive interventions and consultation as needed
  • Exercises professional judgment in all matters involving the professional relationship and follows the standards of professional care, conduct, and responsibility applicable to rendering of professional services
  • Perform annual employee health screenings for direct care staff as required per programs regulations, currently  The Relatives and Foster Care
  • Perform physical exams for PRTF or TFC clients if required to maintain JC compliance.
  • Responds to  medical concerns based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol
  • Attends training sessions as required for position and to maintain license/certification requirements
  • Maintains and updates the Nurse Practitioner/Physician collaborative agreement and any related documentation as needed or as required by the NCBON.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, etc
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Registered Nurse experience: two or more years of related experience in behavioral healthcare or pediatrics preferred

Advanced Nurse Practice Certification with two years or more years of clinical practice experience in pediatrics, family practice or mental health

Proficiency in MS Office applications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, governmental regulations, or legal documentation. Ability to write reports and business correspondence to a prescribed format and style. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of children, top managers, clients and families, volunteers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Competency is defined as the techniques, procedures, technology, skills or equipment needed to do ones job. The following competencies are required of this position; Age specific competency for children and adolescents, competency in the Administration of Medications, CPR; Working with Mental Health Population through utilization of TCI and NMT, Blood Borne Pathogens and Infection Control

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid NC or SC Driver's license

CPR certification

Current NC RN License

Current Advanced Nurse Practice Certification in Pediatrics, Psychiatry or Family Practice

Advanced Nurse Practice Certification in Psychiatry on or before June 30, 2015
