Alexander Youth Network is seeing qualified registered nurses that are interested in working as needed (PRN.) PRN staff is need for all weekday and weekend shifts.

Our RN team provides 24/7 care to 12 adolescents in a residential behavioral healthcare facility. We are the largest children's behavioral healthcare provider in NC.

Seeking those with successful paid work experience in one or more of these specialty areas: urgent/emergent care, pediatrics, psychiatric care or family practice. Must have basic Windows computer skills. EHR experience a plus.

New RN graduates with work experience in healthcare or childcare are encouraged to apply.  

SUMMARY

RN staff must monitor the milieu and all restrictive interventions to ensure the safety and welfare of PRTF clients. RN staff promotes the use of the Neuro-sequential Model of Care; manage medication, medical treatments, observe clients for any health status changes, coordinate emergent care and transport, and collaborate with Guardians to ensure each client's essential well-child healthcare needs are met during their placement in the PRTF; provide healthcare education to their PRTF Treatment Team members, clients, family members and other agency programs as needed, i.e. Medication Administration and Blood Borne Pathogen/Infection Control. Applies knowledge of child growth and development as it relates to the Neuro-sequential Model of Care; explains procedures and treatments to clients to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension through awareness of comfort and safety needs of client; demonstrates punctuality, dependability and on-call availability to work additional shifts; remains flexible to alter core scheduling when unexpected scheduling needs arise within the department; RN staff will flex to be included in the cottage or classroom ratio when the need arises.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide quality nursing services in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, TCI regulations, Joint Commision standards and agency policies
  • Demonstrate the ability to function safely, professionally and ethically without the benefit of direct supervision.  This includes ensuring clear and accurate hand off communication.
  • Monitor the milieu to ensure the safety and welfare of the clients
  • Adhere to PRTF federal regulations  and TCI protocols for restrictive interventions
  • Completes all mandated training

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

RN, NC licensure and at least four years RN experience in Pediatrics, Family Practice, Urgent /ER or Behavioral Healthcare experience is preferred. Proficiency in MS Office applications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional or medical documentation, journals, governmental regulations, or legal documentation.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence to a prescribed format and style.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other medical professionals,  non-medical co-workers, groups of children, top managers, clients and families, volunteers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES  

Competency is defined as the techniques, procedures, technology, skills or equipment needed to do one's job.  The following competencies are required of this position:  age specific competency for children and adolescents, competency in the Administration of Medications, phlebotomy, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Life Saving/Safety to include First Aid and CPR; Working with Mental Health Population through utilization of TCI and NMT, Blood Borne Pathogens and Infection Control. Competency is defined as the techniques, procedures, technology, skills or equipment needed to do one's job.
